Last year Aukaha signed a contract with MSD for a Managed Apprenticeship Trust Plan in Otago. The plan is part of the wider philosophy of Aukaha and our partners to build human capital, whānau wealth creation and a strong economy. Aukaha will lead an integrated system that supports and connects Māori and Pacifica to jobs of the future that will occur in Dunedin and Central Otago over the next 20 years. Called Te Ohu Aukaha, the programme will help ensure delivery of improved economic, environmental cultural and social outcomes across the region. Te Ohu Aukaha will support and transition whānau into sustainable quality employment. Aukaha/Ngāi Tahu will utilise our training and commercial networks and leverage our whānau / community networks to help make this happen. We will provide a key service, connecting businesses with potential apprentices who are in high demand across the region as well as work ready staff. We will also support workers to be successful and stay in employment and enhance their training, career, and qualification outcomes. We will not be a direct employer and we are not in competition for jobs, tenders or projects. Our goal is to support the project through assisting with recruitment, pastoral support, identifying pathways, ensuring industry experience and sharing the message.
Our programme aims are to increase the number of apprenticeships by 24 by 2021, to address skills gaps by demonstrating clear career pathways, to offer high quality apprenticeships in conjunction with our sector partners, to ensure that apprenticeships are accessible to underrepresented and disadvantaged groups, to prepare our existing workforce to meet their potential through skills development and experience, to enhance the reputation of the trade sector as a sector of choice for our communities and to achieve a minimum of 75% completion of apprenticeships. If you want to know more or become involved visit www.aukaha.co.nz
