Employment and Procurement through Regional Development
Linking Māori and Pasifika businesses and people with sector partners
Aukaha has significant relationships with Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu, local government, tertiary education sector and our Treaty partners in the Otago region. Our partners all have a strong commitment to the delivery of enhanced social outcomes, and we work in collaboration to deliver unique and far ranging results. Our programmes include facilitation of supplier/contractor diversity and trade training in a range of sectors.
Te Ohu Aukaha has been developed to ensure increased economic activity in the Otago region generates social value and social outcomes. Our region is undergoing significant growth and development and Aukaha wants to develop positive opportunities that enable businesses to be more inclusive in their supply chain and employment practices.
Aukaha will be the facilitator that links Māori and Pasifika owned businesses with other businesses in our region who want to adopt the practice of supplier diversity for positive social outcomes.
It is our expectation that any company wanting to tender, partner or work with Kāi Tahu in our takiwā, will be open to supplier diversity in their procurement practice.
How does this work?
At Aukaha we maintain two databases.
The first database is made up of Māori and Pasifika business owners, many who are based in Otago. These business owners provide a wide range of services from landscaping and plumbing through to catering and labouring. These businesses are seeking opportunities to become involved with the provision of services on local construction or development projects.
The second database is made up of non-Māori or Pacific owned companies who are interested in working with Aukaha to deliver better outcomes for the Māori and Pacific community. These are businesses that need the skills and services of others and who want to adopt the practice of supplier diversity for positive social outcomes.
We connect and link these two groups to help satisfy the needs and requirements of each business – additional work on one side and additional workers on the other.
Aukaha is collaborating with training providers to support Māori and Pasifika people develop a career in the construction sector. We have established an apprenticeship and pastoral care scheme in the Otago region that offers a high level of support to trainees. Our aim is to ensure apprentices are successful and that they are exposed to opportunities to develop skills and their careers.
If you, or someone you know, is interested in learning a trade get in touch with us today.
The only requirement is that you are of Māori or Pacific descent and willing to make a real go of it with a view to a rewarding and well paid career in the trades.
