Struggling to get into the rental market? A new rental workshop delivered by Aukaha will support whānau in accessing long term rental homes.
Ready to Rent
A new rental workshop delivered by Aukaha will support whānau in accessing long term rental homes.
Ready To Rent is a pilot programme delivered through Aukaha’s Mana Takata team and aims to empower whānau with necessary skills and knowledge to secure and maintain a rental.
Led by Mana Takata’s kaiāwhina Rebecca Hamilton, Ready to Rent is funded by Te Manatū Whakahiato Ora Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and engages local estate agency Property Brokers to assist whānau from all perspectives of the housing sector.
“Our home environment has impact on all aspects of our lives, from health, wellbeing, finances, employment and more. This workshop covers a broad variety of topics that contribute to finding and maintaining a stable whare and ultimately support the wellbeing of whānau,” Rebecca says.
The two-day workshop covers:
- Developing a tenant profile
- Budgeting, finances and cost savings
- Rental, search, viewings and application process
- Legal rights and responsibilities
- Keeping your home warm and dry
- Presentations from Tenancy Services, Property Brokers and MSD
The workshop, held at the Aukaha office, is available to anyone, especially whānau from low-income households or in emergency housing, or those with little or no previous renting experience.
An MSD property broker will be available for whānau to ensure they are getting their full and correct entitlement, and find out if they are eligible for any further support when securing a tenancy.
On completion, participants will receive a bucket of cleaning products, resources, and a certificate of completion which they can present with applications to potential landlords.
